Ten of Wands — Oppression
Oppression

oppression · burden · overload · obstinacy · exhaustion
A reflective starting point
What is Ten of Wands — Oppression asking you to look at?
Meaning changes with the position, the surrounding cards and your question. Take what follows as a language, not a verdict.
Upright
You are carrying more than is healthy: reduce, delegate, let go of what is not yours.
At first sight
Burdens, excessive responsibilities, pressure. It points to a period of fatigue, of accumulated obligations and of energy spent without real satisfaction.
Within you
The will stiffened into obstinacy: you keep pushing out of habit or pride, even when the purpose has been lost.
On the path
Fire in Malkuth, with Saturn in Sagittarius in the third decan: force is imprisoned by the density of matter and the Saturnine limit. Oppression is the will cut off from its spiritual source, fire that burns only itself.
The shadow
Ill-dignified, it signals tyranny, cruelty, physical and moral exhaustion, blind obstinacy.
Reversed
In the Thoth tradition a reversed card is read through its dignity with the neighbouring cards; this is its shadow side.
The weight begins to lighten, or the overload is denied until the breaking point.
In love, work and spirit
Love. A relationship lived as an obligation or a burden; a need to question the roles.
Work. Too much work, stress, disproportionate responsibilities; priorities need redefining.
Spirit. Freeing yourself from self-imposed constraints and rediscovering the reason for your acting.
Correspondences
Malkuth · Fire · Saturn in Sagittarius
Crowley's note
Eight wands are barred by two great dorjes that dominate them, amid flames now dark: the force of fire imprisoned, become pure resistance.
