A reflective starting point
What is Four of Disks — Power asking you to look at?
Meaning changes with the position, the surrounding cards and your question. Take what follows as a language, not a verdict.
Upright
Your position is solid: defend it wisely, but do not shut yourself inside your securities.
At first sight
Earthly power, stability, material security, control of resources. It points to a consolidated position, a protected estate, clear rules and recognised authority.
Within you
The security that comes from order and boundaries; but also the fear of losing what you own, which can turn protection into closure.
On the path
Earth in Chesed, Mercy that organises, with the Sun in Capricorn in the third decan: sunlight brightens and steadies Saturnine form. Power is the law that establishes and defends, an order that protects until it becomes a prison.
The shadow
Ill-dignified, it signals avarice, rigidity, fear of change, an obsessive need for control.
Reversed
In the Thoth tradition a reversed card is read through its dignity with the neighbouring cards; this is its shadow side.
Excessive control, attachment, fear of losing; or a stability beginning to waver.
In love, work and spirit
Love. A stable, protective relationship; beware of possessiveness and defensive routine.
Work. A consolidated position, financial security, administration of assets and rules.
Spirit. Stability as a foundation from which to rise, not as an enclosure.

Crowley's note
In the Thoth deck a square fortress with four corner towers, ringed by a moat, stands out against an orderly landscape: power as a structure that protects and isolates.
