Job Offer Spread

Five cards in an arch to weigh an offer or an interview: what the role is really like, the people you would work with, what would help you grow, what it would cost you and where the first year leads.

The positions

  1. Position 1

    The role

The real nature of the position, beyond the title and the job ad.

What is this role really like?

  2. Position 2

    The people

The team, the managers, the atmosphere: the people you would work with every day.

    What environment would I find?

  3. Position 3

    What it gives you

The growth the role offers: skills, experience, possibilities.

    What would help me grow?

  4. Position 4

    What it costs you

The price of the role: time, energy, balance, what you would give up.

    What would it cost me?

  5. Position 5

    The first year

The most likely path over the first twelve months, if you accept and the forces stay as they are.

Where would the first year take me?

How to read it

  • The cards do not say whether the job will come: the employer decides, with candidates, budgets and timing that cannot be seen. They describe the role and what it would bring to the querent.
  • Cards 3 and 4 are read together, like the two pans of a scale.
  • A court card in position 2 usually points to a real person in the workplace (a manager, a colleague), as an energy and not as a judgement on that person.
  • Card 5 is a tendency, not a promise: the decision to accept stays with the querent.

Positions to read together

  • What it gives you ↔ What it costs you. Ciò che il ruolo dà e ciò che costa: il bilancio vero dell'offerta.
  • The role ↔ The people. Il ruolo e le persone: il lavoro com'è sulla carta e com'è vissuto ogni giorno.
  • The role ↔ The first year. Dal ruolo di oggi a dove porta: se la direzione è quella che chi consulta cerca.
